This week the Premier League of Italian Music a.k.a. the annual Sanremo Music Festival takes place. For five very long consecutive evenings, the best and the rest of Italian singers will compete for the ultimate prize which will be rewarded by jury, press and public on Saturday night. The winner gets a ticket for the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, but may decline the honor.
Past winners of the glamourous event are Domenico Modugno, Gigliola Cinquetti, Bobby Solo, Eros Ramazzotti, Matia Bazar, Riccardo Cocciante, Al Bano & Romina Power and Toto Cutugno to name but a few.
Fun fact to impress your Italian friends: Laura Pausini and Andrea Bocelli both won the youth category in the nineties. È impressionante!
This year Arisa, Ultimo, Enrico Nigiotti, Ex-Otago, Francesco Renga, Il Volo, Irama, Nek, Nino D’Angelo, Ghemon, Paola Turci and Patty Pravo are some of the names competing. You can judge their efforts and (re)discover Italian classics for yourself in your Tunify player.
Not only the Italians are doing their best this week. Son Mieux from Den Hague releases a long-awaited new album. Frontman Camiel Meiresonne overcame a writers’ block ànd some good old-fashioned heartache. The latter has proven itself a fertile breeding ground for big hits. The former not quite yet.
Other artists to benefit from unblocking emotions this week are Ariana Grande, Mercury Rev, Lucky Fonz III, Michael Chapman and country duo Ward Thomas.
Once again, Tunify becomes the horn of plenty for your eager ears!
