All you need is just one word… #NMF

Sometimes all you need is just one word or one name like Cher, Madonna, P!nk or Adele, to make it.

Last year the prestigious ‘The BBC Music Sound of “ title went to the Norwegian singer Sigrid. Former winners included Ellie Goulding, HAIM, 50 Cent, Years & Years, Mika, Sam Smith and (there she is) Adele. Despite some fine sounding efforts, Sigrid could not set fire to the charts. Today she hopes to turn the tide with her debut album.

Exactly twenty years ago, a singer with the mythological name Dido surprised press and public with her debut ‘No Angel’. Eminem built his chart-topper ‘Stan’ around a sample from her song ‘Thank You’ and the rest is history. Dido’s brother is named Rollo and you may know him from British collective Faithless. Dido’s albums following the multi-million seller each went down less successful and after the fourth album, she took a break from the music business. But since music is in her blood, and blood is thicker than water, she releases album number five this weekend with the help from her brother Rollo and legendary producer Rick Nowels (Madonna, Lana Del Rey, Belinda Carlisle, Nelly Furtado, Stevie Nicks and, of course, Adele).

If you are about to name your band, you can go with one simple word as well. And when your enigmatic singer goes by the name Yannis Philippakis, a short and powerful Foals will do the trick. The five boys from that band have been building a strong live reputation in the UK for a decade now. Their first four albums all went Top 10 and they hope to repeat the success this weekend with their fifth one.

Belgian and Dutch music lovers have marked this Friday in their agenda with red. Ertebrekers from Belgium, as well as Rondé from The Netherlands, release their sophomore album today. The former sing in West Flemish, the latter in English. People on a binge-drinking night out get these languages easily confused. Ertebrekers brings you Funky Pop with a touch of Disco. And we are all aware of the fact that even just a touch of Disco can brighten up our day. Back in 2016, the easy on the ear Indie pop of Rondé won them the “3FM Serious Talent Award.” Former honorees included Caro Emerald, De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig, Gers Pardoel and Jett Rebel. Since the recipient of the Award has to be Dutch, Adele never won this one.

Last week we got to know the Belgian candidate for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, Eliot. The Netherlands hope to double their chances with a guy with two first names, Duncan Laurence. Just like Eliot, he was a participant of the television talent show “The Voice”.

More freshly squeezed songs this week come from the likes of the talented James Morrison, Ava Max, Lost Frequencies, David Guetta, Amongster, Marren Morris, Juice Wrld, David Gray, Meat Puppets, Billie Eilish, The National and Nick Waterhouse.

So, to open the door to a magnificent weekend, you just need one magical word… Tunify!
