SONS made a remarkable entrance in the Belgian music scene last year with their song “Ricochet” during the ‘De Nieuwe Lichting’ competition on alternative radio station StuBru. Four fab fellows from Antwerp make great psychedelic garage punk. The marvelous misses from Bananarama graced the bedroom walls of many eighties’ teenage boys. Hormonal as well as harmonic, this lady trio scored big, hit after hit. As soon as they get involved with another threesome, famous producers Stock/Aitken/Waterman, Siobhan Fahey calls it quits. Her husband David A. Stewart, the part of The Eurythmics that’s not Annie Lennox, does not consider it a very artistically direction to go. Founding members Sara and Keren ask friend Jacquie to fill in the space left by Siobhan and together they continue the chart success. By the end of the eighties, they became the most successful all-female group in history, according to the Guinness Book Of Records. In the nineties, Sara and Keren dropped Jacquie and success dropped equally. In the 2000s, they made a halfhearted comeback without any dancefloor bangers, and this decennium they did the obligatory reunion tours. At the verge of yet another decade, they try to revive the concept with new songs. Will “Love In Stereo” be their resurrection? Angélique Kidjo, born in Benin, moved to Paris in the eighties due to political insecurities. There she worked with Dutch jazz pianist Jasper van ’t Hof and together they developed a wonderful fusion of European Jazz and African Music. Ever since the eighties, she’s a well-respected singer-songwriter and her work can often be heard in movies and in television shows. Seemingly effortless she mixes Afrobeat, Jazz, Reggae, Gospel and Latin. The latter becomes clear in her tribute to Cuban legend Célia Cruz.
