Do you feel good when you walk through a Carrefour? This does not happen by chance. The supermarket chain works hard to ensure you have a pleasant shopping experience. For the musical experience, Carrefour relies on Tunify and its expertise.

A supermarket that feels as familiar as your own living room? Carrefour manages to create that recognisable atmosphere at all its locations. Tunify was commissioned by Carrefour Belgium to provide music and audio messages for all Hypermarket and Market branches in Belgium. Carrefour Belgium's music identity which, at Carrefour's request, connects with a wide audience, was defined with the help of their innovative technology and in-house music experts. After all, the doors of a Carrefour are open to all ages and personalities. "Besides our music streaming service, we can also develop a unique customised sound for the customer," says Stijn Remels, project manager at Tunify. "In this case, we first conducted a pilot project at a few Carrefour locations. In the process, we refined the music to achieve the desired result. After delivery, the music is automatically updated daily to match Carrefour's Music ID. In addition to this, we evaluate the situation together at set times so that the music continues to fit the brand."

The upbeat songs reflect the optimism and zest for life for which Carrefour is known.

What music relates to Carrefour? 

"Carrefour stands for quality and affordable food while respecting the environment. The accompanying music is upbeat. The upbeat songs you hear while shopping reflect the optimism and zest for life for which Carrefour is known," says Dave Froidcoeur, Media & Campaign Director of Carrefour Belgium. Recognisable hits from the last few years are often played, while there is also room for a little nostalgia here and there. "The music is never loud or blaring, but deliberately welcoming. This serves to strengthen Carrefour's brand identity and allows you to do your shopping feeling welcomed and cheerful," Dave continues.

Adapting the atmosphere to the moment

Tunify allows Carrefour branches to play the right music at the right time. Throughout the day, Tunify provides a natural variation within the chosen atmosphere. The music is adjusted automatically in the process. Employees replenishing shelves just before opening time, for example, are supported with fun, stimulating beats. Themed music can also take centre stage in all venues, to suit the time of year. Think Christmas, Halloween or Valentine's Day. And during Italian Week, we might also include one or two Mediterranean classics. Anything is possible with Tunify.

 

Planning audio broadcasts centrally

In every supermarket, practical messages such as weekly promotions are broadcast through the sound system from time to time. Within the management portal MyTunify, Carrefour can schedule these broadcasts centrally and efficiently. The system is very flexible, allowing the needs of all branches to be met. Because not every establishment has the same needs. A Carrefour Market is not the same as a Carrefour Hypermarket. And besides Dutch-speaking branches, there are also French-speaking branches. "We helped Carrefour with the set-up so that these broadcasts could be scheduled easily and efficiently," says Stijn Remels. "Our personal advice and service are key features that customers appreciate about us."

 

A music partner who works with you

Carrefour also calls on Tunify to provide an appropriate musical framework for special promotions. Being flexible and able to implement changes quickly is crucial in this respect. Local songs during Belgian Music Week, electronic dance in the run-up to Tomorrowland or film music at a Disney promotion: anything is possible. Sometimes the experience is even interactive: on Employee Day, employees nominate their favourite songs and they are then played in the shop. And during the quiet hours the music is automatically switched off, so that even highly sensitive customers can enjoy their shopping experience in peace.
