Tunify and Bavet: serving perfectly seasoned spaghetti and music

Bavet has been building an ambitious plan since 2016: serving unique and contemporary spaghetti to as many lovers of an honest dish, great service, and an original setting as possible. Since then, ten branches have opened in various major Belgian cities. Peter Van Praet is the Founder and Concept Guardian at Bavet, “Music plays a crucial role in the experience we want to offer. Bavet: enjoy food and music to the fullest

When you think of spaghetti, you naturally think of Italy. But Peter Van Praet will break that association as soon as he can, “We serve a unique variant of which we determined the flavour ourselves – after all, spaghetti bolognaise is a Belgian dish (wink). You can choose from six different sauces or The Baveteers specials. You can personalise them by choosing your own cheese, pasta, and toppings. Afterwards, it’s utter enjoyment in a well thought-out setting: young, dynamic, surprising, and relaxed. What music goes with that? A cleverly compiled rock & roll list! Along with evergreens from the 1960s and 1970s. But, new and even unknown numbers get played as well.”

Bavet continues to grow thanks to a healthy (entrepreneurial) appetite.  Peter Van Praet, “We believe that local anchoring is very important. That’s why we provide a stage in every location. We schedule performances by young bands at our in-house events. That creates a wonderful ambience and it’s inspiration for a better understanding of the music we want for Bavet.”

From Spotify to Tunify

To offer the right music, you need a smart streaming service. Peter Van Praet, “We found out very quickly that Spotify is not an option for the Bavet restaurants. It’s easy to get in trouble over the music rights. After a short run with a local streaming service, we arrived at Tunify. We immediately noticed that they agree with our concept. Thanks to Tunify Orange, we guarantee the right playlists from our headquarters. In this way, we create a recognisable ambience in the ten locations in the various cities. And we’re quite successful at it because customers regularly ask for our playlist.”

The Bavet playlist brings the team together

The choice of music makes or breaks the mood. Peter Van Praet, “You can only successfully determine the Bavet ambience if you talk about it often with your team. That consultation immediately brings everyone much closer together. You can get a lot further by using keywords. With us, for example, these are alive, dynamic, young, and trendy.”

Peter Van Praet, “Tunify is great because you can easily compile a list with those specific parameters. This way, we ensure a playlist that is always up to date and sufficiently varied. For me, that’s the advantage of Tunify: you get a flexible system that allows you to quickly adjust a playlist.
