A box of delicious chocolates … #NMF

Life’s like a box of chocolates… Only by looking at the lists of new releases this Friday, you know Forrest’s mom was right.

Tunify-Kansas

Expect a wide variety of music styles, ages, comebacks, national holidays, exotica, movie quotes and a name change or two from the music industry. But in the unlikely event, you have to choose between chocolate and music, remember that music does not melt in your hand. Which does not mean that music can’t melt your heart!

A treat for the eyes and ears is London-based thirtysomething Lianne La Havas. Her debut got nominated for the prestige BBC’s Sound of 2012 and eight years later on we welcome her third album in your Tunify Player. Lianne likes to take her time, and it shows in the musical complexity of her beautiful and well-crafted songs. You may already know precursors “Bittersweet” and “Paper Thin”, but you can discover ten other new musical delights this weekend.

“The Absence of Presence” is quite an unusual album title, but the rock legends from Kansas came up wit hit, so we dig it. To quote another legendary movie, “The Wizard of Oz”, Judy Garland’s character Dorothy sighs after the hurricane that took her and her dog Toto to the magical land of Oz ‘Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore’. Of rock group Toto we know they prefer to spend their time in Africa, but no word from Kansas for a long time. In the seventies and eighties, they played for large audiences, but nowadays this is a utopia. Nevertheless, they engage in putting themselves out there with brand new material, so kudos to Kansas.

Also very challenging is changing your name. The Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, choose to cut the Dixie out, due to the negative connotation of slavery in the USA. But don’t judge a book by its cover. The Chicks are not your average pop princesses but powerful and daring women who know how to handle a guitar on stage and in a back alley. You simply don’t want to mess with them. Their album title “Gaslighter” is a warning for the flammable and infectious Bluegrass, Americana and Country they bring.

Last Tuesday the French celebrated their national holiday with long-awaited new songs from the likes of Calogero, Carla Bruni, Peter Peter, Booba, Yelle, Trois Cafés Gourmands , PLK, and Gambi.

Also long-awaited is the return of The Pretenders. With only their eleventh album in over forty years of performing, you can tell Chrissie Hynde and her friends like to take their time as well to write a good tune. Although they baptized the new album “Hate For Sale”, we welcome this rock goddess and her disciples with open arms.

Also back with (sort of) a name chance is Jarvis Cocker from Pulp. You ‘ll find him this weekend by his code name JARV IS…

Other musical gods we like to embrace this weekend are KYLE, The Waterboys, BENEE, Anne-Marie, Kiiara, Spinvis, Wafia, Mo Pitney, Gianni Marzo, Bush, Calvin Harris, Boef, Amigos, My Morning Jacket, YG, Yungblud, Troye Sivan, Ally Brooke, Tensnake and Ellie Goulding. They all made an effort to spice up your weekend

So welcome to the magical land of new music, filled with utopic sounds, and please choose from plenty of delicious songs Tunify has to offer!

Mark Friday the 24th of July on your calendar, because new efforts from Jessy Lanza, Ronan Keating, Neon Trees, Seasick Steve, Neck Deep, Lori McKenna, Courtney Marie Andrews, Fantasy, Howling and The Naked And Famous will be available for your ears to enjoy!
