Creative minds headed to the future #NMF

There has been a lot of thinking lately about easing, exit strategies and distribution plans … also in the music world.

Tunify-Michael Franti & SpearheadTunify-

Artists with a recovery plan, artists with an exit strategy, artists paying tribute to other artists, artists that want to stir it up…. All creative minds with a vision, and that’s the way we like it at our (virtual) weekly New Music Friday party!

Norah Jones is no stranger to those who like to jazz things up now and then, although she has been exploring other musical territories for the last decade. Norah shot to fame with her debut “Come Away With Me”. The album rocketed to number one all over the world, sold millions, gathered multiple Grammy Awards amongst others. The smooth and cozy follow up “Feels Like Home” established her as a household name. Norah stayed loyal to her record company Blue Note, but not so much to her music style, and after experimenting with alternative pop and rock, she lost a big deal of her fan base. Today she is going back to her roots and asks you politely “Pick Me Up off the Floor”. Any volunteers? Form an orderly cue and obey the acquired social distancing rules.

Keeping a respectable social distance between songs is Michael Franti & Spearhead. Today Michael and his mates release the first seven songs of “Work Hard & Be Nice”. Well, that’s how we roll anyway, Michael. The other ten songs you can stream next week, same time, same place @Tunify.

Built To Spill is an American alternative band rocking since 1993. Their ninth album is a tribute to the recently deceased musician and illustrator Daniel Johnston. The music of Built To Spill is known for its complex structure of songs, whilst Daniel’s style was more direct and sometimes childish. Before the Built To Spill concept album Daniel’s music was already covered by great artists such as Tom Waits, Pearl Jam, Lana Del Rey, Mercury Rev, Beck, and Eels. Those are big shoes to fill…

More poetry and/or mindless fun this week come from the likes of R&B sisters Chloe X Halle, Flying Horseman, Jason DeRulo, Joan Osborne, Gorillaz, Leon Bridges & Terrace Martin, Meskerem Mees, Jessica Andersson, Hooverphonic, Mando Diao, Amir, Tricky, N8N, Mosimann, Talisco, ELIF, Basto!, Lea Rue, Fixkes, Blues Pills, Lena Philipsson en good old Elvis Costello.

Artists who know how to take matters into their own hands, artists that keep reinventing themselves, artists going back to their roots, artists with a message and artists who just want to make you dance and have a carefree good time. All are cueing to give you the time of your life with Tunify!
