In search of the New Normal #NMF

Today, Christians celebrate Good Friday and music lovers New Music Friday. That sounds like a beautiful musical holiday …

Good Friday is a Christian holiday, a moment of darkness that leads up to the resurrection of hope. New Music Friday is a celebration of good music, imagination, revisiting traditions, the discovery of new genres and artists. There are new paths to tread in search of the New Normal.

The American band The Strokes though, are known to go against the current and therefore call their latest album “The New Abnormal”. Zeitgeist, anyone?

Blessed with a fabulous name, frontman Julian Casablancas is the son of the founder of Elite Model Management and Miss Denmark 1965. After a few atypical side projects of the lead singer (remember his Daft Punk collaboration and solo album?) and a seven-year time-out the band found itself in search of its essence. They called upon the help of ‘band whisperer’ Rick Rubin. Apparently this magician is specialized in producing career reviving albums, as he did in the past with Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Sabbath and Metallica. An impressive gang of men to work with, but you don’t want to run into them in a dark alley, now do you?

You may want to shine your light upon the question of how dark exactly the latest album from The Strokes sounds? All will be revealed thanks to your magical Tunify Player.

Do you want to stay in your comfort zone this weekend or are you ready for new adventures? It may feel like entering uncharted musical territories while listening to the unpredictable jazz of Avishai Cohen & Big Vicious, the exotic mixture of neo-soul and African folk by Bongeziwe Mabandla, the air-guitar friendly rock instrumentals of Joe Satriani, the psychedelic art-rock of The Dream Syndicate, the symphonic metal of Nightwish and the bold folky blues of Pokey Lafarge.

We also meet up with old friends like Bazart, Zazie, Twenty One Pilots, Frank Ocean, Jef Neve, Marwa Loud, Black Leather Jacket, The Movement & Collie Buddz, Blank & Jones, Michael Cafan & Martin Solveig, Rolf Sanchez, Jimmy Greene, Jackie Lynn and witness an unexpected collaboration between Mr. Oizo and Roméo Elvis.

The future is still unwritten but we will surely experience a sense of freedom and happiness in exploring new music, sounds and artists with Tunify this weekend.
