Musical legends are coming … #NMF

A former First Lady and somebody with Roman numerals in his name catches the eye and ears whilst investigating our New Music Friday at Tunify.

As far as we know American folk legend Loudon Wainwright III never married a president. What we DO know is that Loudon is part of a very musical family (tree). Bear with us. His sister Sloan is a well-renowned indie-folk artist, his son Rufus and daughters Martha and Lucy are frequently listened to artists by music lovers in general. Loudon is also the widower of  Kate McGarrigle, who used to sing with her sister Anna. “Complainte Pour Sainte Catherine” from their 1976 debut album , still gets a lot of airplay all around the world . All household names for those people who are into folk. For over fifty years Loudon is releasing albums and today he decides to show off a jazzier side by confessing to “I’d Rather Lead a Band”.

Italian model Carla Bruni releases her sixth album today. Her career on the catwalk took off in the mid-eighties, her singing career only in 2002 due to the massive success of “Ouelqu’un m’a dit”. Her debut album sold worldwide over two million copies, half of them in France. So ex-president Nicolas Sarkozy whom she married in 2008 might have been one of those buyers. Luckily Carla does not make a remarkable shift today, so we can all enjoy the songs and the musical style she’s so beloved by critics as well as the public.

We are also glad to hear again from the lads from Travis. Twenty years ago these guys were wondering  “Why Does It Always Rain On Me?”. A feeling we still can relate to given the weather forecast. We also applaud the return of the artistic Future Islands and the very energetic Sub Focus & Wilkinson and Dizzee Rascal.

Other noteworthy comeback singles and albums we listen to from now on come from the likes of AC/DC, Sub Focus & Wilkinson, Jax Jones, Kendji Girac, Deep Sea Diver, Amaranthe, Michael Calfan, Goldkimono, Dagny, MNEK, Tommy Lee, Lauren Aquilina, Ward Thomas, Endor, YG and Sarah Reeves.

Mark Friday, October 16th on your calendar: the solo record from The National-singer Matt Berninger hits your Tunify player, as well as new work from Sasha Sloan, Nena, Guy Sebastian, Danny Brillant, Brent Cobb, Kevin Morby, The Vamps, The Struts, The Smashing Pumpkins, Katie Melua, Dub Pistols, Lucas & Steve, Amir, Annie, and Woodkid.

So prick up your ears because thanks to Tunify you will find besides the right atmosphere the right attitude to face the fact that winter is coming. Who needs a president at their dinner table anyway?
